The Rain Remembers

Seeing the World Through Other Eyes - Art Inspired By the Music of Daniel Lanois - Poetry Inspired By Dancing In the Rain

I saw you dancing in the street, when it began to rain

Dirty feet, wet shirt like a second skin

Oblivious to me

Feet on pavement move to unheard music

Just the sound of raindrops falling through your mind

Did you hear me calling out

Will you see me try

Can you feel the love I have

Waiting deep inside

You never looked to see me before I turned away

Inside too deep, to hear me creep

Silently away

Too much a thief of quiet moments

Observed private thoughts, you left out on display

Did you hear me calling out

Will you see me try

Can you feel the love I have

Waiting deep inside

Melting into shadows, rising with the moon

Suddenly a heartbeat redefines a tune

Reinventing lines

Lending new memories in timid time

Recolouring the world within, an inner glow

Did you hear me calling out

Will you see me try

Can you feel the love I have

Waiting deep inside

Wisdom finally found me, lying in the road

Dancer lazy lidded, smile implied

Waving a goodbye

Momentary listener moving on

The rain alone remembers anything at all

Did you hear me calling out

Will you see me try

Can you feel the love I have

Waiting deep inside

Now it merely echoes through the lonely street

Sweet memory of the footsteps

A dance complete

Wander off and out of sight

Decadent echoes of an art given soul for a night
